![]() ![]() Prior to this, my only real experience was at a suppressor shoot, and the Blackout star-of-the-show back then was a Sig MCX with their 762 can on it shooting subs.Īlso, don't underestimate just how noisy the AR action is, and how much noise you get from the ejection port during firing. Still totally hearing safe, I guess just that at the time, I didn't really know what to expect. I can't say it enough, like you, when I first screwed this thing together and fired it without ear pro, I was like "zomg this fucking thing is lowd." I haven't really worked super hard on my setup, I could probably tinker around with like an adjustable gas block or bolt carrier group and buffers and ammo to quiet it down some more. 22LR subsonic suppressed.Įdit - I think the Omega is a really nice overall performer for 300 Blackout, not too big, not too loud, but if you're in the pursuit of the ultimate Blackout rig as far as sound performance, the Omega is not the can you seek. It's very pleasant to shoot and not painful to the ears at all with subsonic ammo, but not really in the same league as. I think the sound of an AR15 bolt closing is like 110 db by itself. 22 LR, and your ear is right next to the ejection port, along with the buffer and spring bouncing around in the tube. The 1.75" cans are quieter though.Would you say its as quite as a 22Lr sub quite? The db ratings on those im seeing are around 119db also. ![]() I dunno decibel ratings, but I can shoot subsonic ammo without ear plugs or muffs all day without discomfort. Decibel reduction specs are fairly similar on most of those but the SPECWAR is definitely the winner. ![]() 308 cans is noticeably louder SDN-6, TranQuilo, Gemtech, YHM Phantom, Saker, Sandman S & SF SOCOM. ![]() Same rifle and ammo with any of my other. PNW filed for bankruptcy so I switched to Gemtech 187 gr and Remington 220gr. I went through several different suppressors, barrel lengths and factory ammo choices and my winning combo was an AAC MPW 9" rifle, SilencerCo SPECWAR 762 shooting PNW Arms 220gr ammo. I did have a need for a large caliber round to be as quiet as possible on a reliably functioning SBR and the 300BLK was the round I chose to experiment with. A paladin 3 way gas block could solve that problem though. The TranQuilo is an outstanding design and does what it was intended to do very well, however being uber quiet wasn't one of the predominant design criteria, which is pretty much the same across the board for most centerfire rifle cans designed for hard use. If you want it to lock back without a can it could be over-gassed when shooting supersonic. In order not to over-gas the barrel with supersonic loads the barrels normally will not lock back shooting subsonic loads without a can. Sounds to me like someone "decided" to drill the gas port a fuzz small. How do you "design" a barrel to be supersonic only? Kind of sounds like an engineers term.īeing an engineer for about 25 years I can say we designed and engineered buildings but I can't say I have ever designed a hole. One should use a "C" buffer though (not an H or H2 buffer). That is no inherent reason why a 16 inch barrel with carbine gas cannot work well with subsonic - AAC and Noveske, after all, use that configuration with no problems.
